These last few weeks have been crazy busy for us, and I can’t wait to share our adventures! Let’s start with a recap of the 2024 MacDougall gathering at Dunollie Castle in Oban, Scotland.
The Gathering
The 2024 MacDougall gathering marked its 6th celebration, welcoming hundreds of MacDougalls from across the globe. Dunollie Museum, the historic seat of the MacDougall clan, hosted the event. The event lasted from 30th July to 4th August.
Dunollie Castle, Museum, and Grounds
Dunollie sits about a mile north of Oban along the coast. This area has been inhabited for 8,000 years. The medieval castle ruin perches on a cliff, offering stunning views across Oban Bay and the Isles. Below the ruin is the Laird’s House, home to our 1745 House Museum. It features Highland Social History, including the exhibition ‘Beyond the Stones: Magic, Medicine and the MacDougalls.’ You’ll also find Clan MacDougall material and archives there.
Dunollie’s Historic Woodland Grounds surround the 1745 House and Castle Ruin. They offer relaxation for adults and outdoor fun for kids. Dogs on leads are welcome too!
Family Portraits
At the gathering, I captured family photos and candid moments. Here are some of the many beautiful faces from the 2024 MacDougall Gathering.
The event was buzzing with laughter and stories. I photographed joyful reunions and proud traditions. Kids played in the Historic Woodland Grounds while adults relaxed and chatted. Dunollie’s backdrop added magic to every shot. The medieval castle ruin, the stunning Oban Bay views, and the charming 1745 House Museum made every picture special. Families posed together, showing off their MacDougall pride. Each photo tells a story of heritage and togetherness. The gathering was a heartwarming celebration of the MacDougall clan.
The Ceilidh
A Ceilidh is a traditional Scottish and Irish gathering, and the MacDougall one was a blast! We had delicious food, plenty of drinks, traditional music, and tons of dancing. Clan Chief Madam Morag Morley MacDougall and her son Robin the Younger of Dunollie also joined the festivities.
The 2024 MacDougall gathering at Dunollie Castle was unforgettable. From the joyful reunions to the lively Ceilidh, every moment was filled with fun and tradition. We’re already looking forward to the next one!
