Like many Argyll locals, Lauren and Angus found me through the Scotland wedding photographer grapevine. I met with Lauren in December of 2023 to discuss her summer Isle of Seil wedding. The first thing she asked me was “how do you feel about farm animals and kids?” I chuckled and said “Well, I grew up on a farm and I worked as a teacher for a while, so in short kids love me.” That was a farmer joke and she got it! For those who might not get farm humour, a kid is another word for a baby goat.
Pre-nuptial Prelude
Lauren and Angus wanted their wedding photos to reflect who they are, the importance of family, and their love of farming. They emphasised these aspects in our initial conversations, and I was thrilled to bring their vision to life. During our chats, Lauren mentioned she wasn’t sure if I was into that kind of thing. And let me tell you, I absolutely am! As a wedding photographer, my job is to tell YOUR story, not my version of your wedding. Capturing the essence of Lauren and Angus’s Isle of Seil wedding was a privilege.
The Wedding Day
We arrived early in the morning to Lauren’s aunts farm and home on the Isle of Seil. Lauren and Angus, their two wee children and their close wedding party were getting ready and we were happy to capture some of those slow intimate moments. There was a quiet moment in the morning when Lauren’s aunt took us outside to help feed the baby lambs and meet some of the farm animals.
Finally, the time came to head to Tigh na Truish, a historic pub and inn beside the Bridge Across the Atlantic on the Isle of Seil. This charming inn, named “The House of Trousers” in Scots Gaelic, has a fascinating history. Islanders once changed from kilts into trousers here before crossing Clachan Sound to the mainland.
After the Jacobite Rebellion in 1745, wearing kilts and speaking Gaelic became outlawed. Tigh na Truish became a symbol of this cultural transition. The inn’s rich history added a unique touch to Lauren and Angus’s wedding day. As we approached, the air buzzed with excitement and a sense of stepping back in time.
