When you work in the wedding industry, weekends off are rare. As a Scotland wedding photographer, I hardly ever get a free weekend, especially in the summer! But today, I did! So, I wanted to share a few fun things we did on a Saturday in Oban, Scotland.

An 8 Mile Adventure

We woke up early and set out for a morning walk around Oban. We headed towards Pulpit Hill, soaking in the fresh, cool air. The climb rewarded us with stunning views that made the effort worthwhile.

Near Pulpit Hill, we discovered a completely deserted viewpoint. The solitude made the experience even more special, offering breathtaking views without any distractions.

After enjoying the panorama, we continued our walk towards the ferry to the Isle of Kerrera. The journey covered nearly 8 miles, and we dealt with the occasional nuisance of midges. Despite that, the adventure was truly unforgettable.

Wine, Gelato, and Pizza? YES!

A few weeks ago, we heard about a new restaurant that opened up here in Oban. Kaina, an Italian restaurant, boasts a good menu of pizza, pasta, and gelato. And, wine. So much wine! Now, I lived in Florence Italy for two years, and I have been searching for a GOOD authentic pizzeria and Italian restaurant near Oban since I moved here. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I want a greasy dominos pizza, but every now and then, I just want a Neapolitan pizza with buffalo mozzarella.

So, when I heard about Kaina, I was excited to check it out. I couldn’t wait to see if it would satisfy my cravings for genuine Italian cuisine. With this being my first Saturday in months that I didn’t have a wedding or photoshoot to do, I decided to check it out.

I do recommend calling ahead and getting a reservation because this place was BUSY! Luckily, that’s what I did and I arrived about 15 minutes before my reservation. The staff were absolutely lovely and our server Logan, a fellow American, was super attentive.

But the highlight of the meal? The tiramisu! It was homemade and prepared the traditional way, with rum. The mascarpone was whipped and fluffy, and the portion was extremely generous. Each bite was a perfect balance of sweet and creamy, leaving us completely satisfied.

Kaina truly exceeded my expectations, and I’m thrilled to have found an authentic Italian restaurant in Oban. And yes I will be back. In fact, I’m already planning to order a whole pan of tiramisu for my 30th!
