Scotland Engagement Photography

July has been an adventure, travelling around Scotland and the inner Hebrides. There are so many stories I can’t wait to share with you. Let’s kick things off with a Romantic Engagement in the Scottish Highlands on the Isle of Kerrera with Rachel and Stephen.

Romantic Engagement in the Scottish Highlands

Rachel and Stephen had been planning this shoot with me for a while as part of their wedding photography package. As a wedding and elopement photographer in Scotland, engagement photos are part of each wedding package. Engagement photos are such a brilliant way for our clients to get to know us better, which in turn makes them feel more relaxed and comfortable on their wedding day. It’s not just about the photos; it’s about building a connection and creating memories.

Our adventure began in Oban, a charming little town on the west coast of Scotland known as the gateway to the isles. We met up at the pier, waiting for the ferry to take us across to Kerrera. From the moment we saw each other, it was like catching up with old friends. Rachel and Stephen’s excitement was infectious, and we chatted away as we waited for the ferry, sharing stories and laughing like we’d known each other for ages.

The ferry ride was short but sweet, offering stunning views of the coastline and the promise of a beautiful day ahead. As we stepped onto Kerrera, the sense of adventure grew. The island is a hidden gem, with its rugged landscapes, serene beaches, and a sense of timelessness that makes it perfect for capturing romantic moments.

A Marriage Proposal in the Inner Hebrides

Like many millennials, Rachel and Stephen met online. To be exact, they met on Bumble. Rachel had moved to a small town for work, and it didn’t have many young people around. She joined Bumble specifically for its “find friends” feature. She wasn’t looking for a romantic relationship, just a few like-minded people to grab a pint with on the weekends.

They matched on Bumble and planned to meet up. Rachel recounted how, the moment she met Stephen, she knew he was her person. They had three dates that week, which might sound like a lot, but they were just prioritising the time they had together. You see, Stephen was from this small town and was back visiting his family. But, being part of the British Army, he was going to be leaving again soon.

Time passed, and they became “Facebook official,” as Rachel put it. They were travelling often to see each other, and as the years ticked by, Stephen started thinking of the next logical step—asking Rachel to marry him. This is where Kerrera comes in. The island was especially important to them, and Stephen planned to pop the question there. However, the ring arrived a bit late, so that didn’t quite play out as planned.

After talking with them, we decided to capture their official engagement photos on this beautiful and rugged island, on the grounds of Gylen Castle.

Congratulations, Rachel and Stephen! I can’t wait to be at your wedding and capture more of your lives together.
